165’ Excursion Boat Modified

Oak Hill Marine Design was hired by Gladding Hearn Shipbuilding in Somerset, Massachusetts, http://gladding-hearn.com to modify the design of a 165’ excursion vessel we had lofted 7 years earlier. No changes to the hull or main deck were required, but another deck was to be added to the superstructure. The original superstructure, with the exception of the pilot house, was to be left unchanged. The original pilot house was to be moved to the second deck roof, bulwarks were to be added port and starboard, and the roof extended aft to provide cover for passengers on that level.

AeroHydro’s MultiSurf 3D modeling software allowed us to copy parts of the original second deck and use them to create a new third deck and roof. The same capabilities allowed us to move the pilot house and forward bulwarks up one deck while retaining all of the surfaces, internal structure, and their physical relationships.

From the 3D computer model we provided Gladding-Hearn with expanded plate shapes and structural sections, which they detailed for CNC cutting. The structural sections, along with plan, profile, and fore and aft views of plates, were used by Gladding-Hearn to create their in-house construction drawings.
